August 2017 Parent Resource Message

Hello Parents:

At the summer ASU orientation, you indicated you would like to receive a monthly update that details important information regarding your student’s ASU academic experience.  Thank you for your interest in receiving this parent communication.

The start of the fall semester is right around the corner.  Here are some tasks your student should be addressing in early August:

  1. Books:  Students can learn which books are needed for each class on their MyASU page.  A variety of options are available.  Your student may buy new books, buy used books, rent new books, or rent used books.
  2. Schedule:  If your student wants to make a change in their fall class schedule, they need to contact our advising staff.     We are seeing students on a walk-in and same day phone appointment basis August 8 through August 23. We are located on the 6th floor of Coor Hall.   If your student is not in Arizona, they should call our office to make a same day phone appointment (480 965 8563).
  3. Fall Welcome:  On Tuesday, April 15, your student will attend a Fall Welcome.  All new freshmen in the School of Politics and Global Studies will attend a morning session in Coor Hall and will meet faculty and staff and learn more about internships and opportunities they can take advantage of during their undergraduate career.
  4. Drop/Add Date:  The last day to make a change to fall 2017 C session courses is August 23, 2017.
  5. Academic Calendar:  The academic calendar ( students.asu.edu/academic-calendar#fall17) includes all important dates for the fall semester.  All holidays and important drop/withdraw deadlines are detailed on this calendar.
  6. Tuition Fee Payment Deadline - For registration from 2/23/2017 through 8/18/2017, the tuition deadline is August 25, 2017.  For more information see students.asu.edu/tuitiondeadlines
  7. Blackboard:  During the first week of classes students should look at their Blackboard site which can be accessed via their MyASU page.  Faculty will post course requirements and syllabi on the Blackboard site throughout the semester.
