Carrie Falbe Capital Scholars Memorial Endowment

Description

The Getsingers, the parents of Carrie Falbe, established this endowed scholarship to support an undergraduate student participating in the Capital Scholars Program. Scholarship recipients shall be students who are interested in a congressional or non- congressional internship that will allow them to explore varied work interests, have a strong work ethic and the ability to interact thoughtfully with others, and have a curiosity about learning new ideas and expanding one’s own cultural experiences. Carrie graduated summa cum laude with two degrees in May 2007, a B.A. in political science and a B.A. in Spanish.  Through Carrie’s participation as a Capital Scholar intern at the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies at the National Defense University in 2005, Carrie and her parents decided to create this scholarship to assist future Capital Scholars with this unique opportunity. This award will be approximately $1,000.

Requirements

Only applicants that meet all of the following requirements will be considered for the scholarship:

  1. Applicant must be accepted into the Capital Scholars program.
  2. Applicant must have completed three semesters of coursework at ASU.
  3. Applicant must have a minimum cumulative gpa of 3.50.  For students who have established an ASU gpa but also have transfer credit,  the student’s combined transfer and ASU cumulative gpa must be a 3.50 or higher at the time of application.  
  4. Applicant must be a degree seeking student enrolled through ASU’s Tempe campus with an interest in public policy (see questions below).
  5. Applicant must a student who in interested in a non-congressional internship that will allow them to explore a variety of work interests, have a strong work ethic and the ability to interact thoughtfully with others and have a curiosity about learning new ideas and expanding one’s own cultural experiences.

Strong consideration will be given to applicants who meet the above requirements and demonstrate the following:

Only applicants who complete the following by the published deadline will be considered for the scholarship.  Please submit the following documents:

  1. Verification of acceptance into the Capital Scholars Program
  2. Statement which may include questions such as:
    1. What are your future career plans?
    2. How will the Capital Scholars experience help you achieve your career goals?
    3. What public policy issues or problems are important to you?
    4. The Capitol Scholars program seeks a diverse and unique class of future leaders with an interest in understanding different perspectives on public policy.  How will your distinctiveness enrich our learning environment and enhance my prospects for success as a leader?

Optional Document

Students who want the selection committee to consider their financial need are advised to include a personal statement of need or a copy of current financial aid notification or a current FAFSA.
